USPHL Reign adds David Norris as Arizona's Head Scout

by Tomas Kapusta

David is originally from Ottawa, Ontario before moving to Calgary, Alberta at a young age where he played his minor and junior hockey.

Hockey has taken David all over the world, and now he’s hoping to take what he has learned as a player to the front office. David played for Coach Jeremy Blumes with the Calgary Royals and credits Blumes with helping take his game to the next level.

“Coach Blumes was a huge part of me getting to the next level. He was able to teach me skills that I wouldn’t have learned with any other coach. He understands how to develop young hockey players and his first goal is helping young players get to where they want to be. ”

David played for the Calgary Mustangs of the AJHL for two years before going NCAA D1. David played a year and a half at AIC, breaking the single-season assist record, he then transferred to the desert to play for the newly formed ASU NCAA D1 hockey program. After helping build the foundation with ASU, he took his talents overseas to play in Europe with the Milton Keynes Lightning of the EIHL and the Hull Pirates of the NIHL. Shortly after, he transitioned to Germany to compete with the ERSC Amberg in the Germany4 league and in Austria with the Steel Wings Linz of the AlpsHL before returning to the US to play with the Idaho Steelheads of the ECHL.

“I am excited to join such a great organization, I have only heard great things about the Jr Reign. I hope to bring my knowledge to help take this team to the next level and help young athletes get the best opportunity to go to the next level. Jeremy has done an excellent job building a great coaching staff and front office and I hope I to add to this.”

Former Reign forward Armen Araybyan is attending Arizona State and playing on their ACHA team.

Head Coach and General Manager Jeremy Blumes commented: “The timing for David’s return to Arizona is serendipitous for our club, a couple of guys from Calgary, Alberta connecting 1600 miles away from home, but that's how this great game works sometimes. We know that Arizona is an absolute hotbed of hockey talent and we are looking to add players from that region, David should help move those players west.”

Along with Norris's scouting duties, David has recently taken on a role with the ASU club hockey team as an assistant coach and is offering private training sessions.
