San Diego State Men's Ice Hockey Head Coach Phil Bateman to talk at upcoming USPHL Prep Camp

by Jr Reign

San Diego State Men's Ice Hockey Head Coach Phil Bateman will be joining us for the upcoming Ontario Jr. Reign USPHL Prep Camp at Center Ice Skating Arena in Ontario, California.

The Aztec and San Diego sports communities have benefited greatly from the presence of the San Diego State Men's Ice Hockey Team since its inaugural season back in 1972.

Numerous players have contributed to the program's rising stature throughout the course of its nearly 45-year history. The squad has had invites to the Division II regional tournament of the American College Hockey Association (ACHA), and it has won a National Championship at the Division III level.

The San Diego State Men's Ice Hockey team made history by becoming the first ACHA Division 1 hockey program in California this past November. The elevation to Division 1 is a testament to everyone in the program's remarkable character since it began almost 40 years ago. "I'm delighted for everyone who has ever put on the uniform," coach Bateman said in The Daily Aztec. "They're the pioneers who allowed this to happen."

Coach Bateman will begin his seventh season as San Diego State University's head coach at the start of this school year. This season will also mark his 30th season of coaching ice hockey at a number of high levels, including the NCAA, ACHA, Professional, Juniors, Club AAA, and Varsity High School.

Coach Bateman received the Merrimack Valley Division II Coach of the Year award in both 2007 and 2008.

Head Coach and General Manager Jeremy Blumes commented "We believe Phil's program and others like it are an important part of the USPHL equation for players and families considering their options at this level.  We are grateful that Phill will be sharing information on the SDSU program with our camp participants."

There is still room to register for camp this weekend August 13-14, 2022 in Ontario, California at Center Ice Arena. This USPHL Prep Camp will be a valuable tool for players interested in pursuing Junior A hockey opportunities. To register please visit
