OJR Welcome Roughnecks Back to Ontario

by Sebastian Abdon Ibarra

The Ontario Jr Reign (17-5-0-1) take on the Bakersfield Roughnecks (10-5-1-1) for the third time this season. The Jr Reign will be looking to bounce back after a hard-fought series last week against the Fresno Monsters.

Not much has changed with this Roughnecks squad since the last time these two teams met on Nov. 17, in fact, the Roughnecks have only played one game since. After starting their season with nine wins in their first 10 games, the Roughnecks have been on a slight skid as of late with a (1-4-1-1) record in their last seven games.

Defense has been the main culprit of their recent struggles, as they have allowed 43 goals in these past seven games. However, with a +22 goal differential on the season, they are still a very competitive team. They only allowed 18 goals and scored 54 through their first 10 games before the five-game losing streak.

The Jr Reign will be looking to get back in the win column after they went blow for blow with the Fresno Monsters and came away with just one win last series. The last two games of the series were anyone’s game and Ontario came painfully close to stealing two of three from a truly elite Fresno Monsters squad.

Baden Powell is one player to keep an eye on in this series. Powell is coming off a good three-point series against Fresno, which included being an instrumental part of the 5-4 OJR win with his two goals.

He also had his best game of the season against the very same Bakersfield Roughnecks the last time the two met. His first hat trick of the season accounted for half the Jr Reign offense in the 6-1 win, a demonstration of why he had recently won his first POTW award.

Don’t miss what is sure to be another exciting series against the third-place Bakersfield Roughnecks and your first-place Ontario Jr Reign this Friday at 8:40 p.m. and Sunday at 8:25 p.m. at Ontario Center Ice Arena. Don't miss out—secure your tickets today!
