The Opening game of our weekend series was a true nail-biter, with the Thunderbirds coming away with the 4-3 win.
Nicholas Fiolleau opened the scoring just 54 seconds into the game, but penalties soon became the main topic for discussion. The OJR got into trouble early, allowing back-to-back power play goals halfway through the first period.
Christopher Lai evened the score at 12:05 of the second period, but the Thunderbirds responded with a goal to regain the lead. Kash Henkelman responded quickly however, and the Jr Reign entered the third period tied with the Thunderbirds.
The third period saw the OJR kill a 5-minute penalty kill, but it wasn’t enough as California native Scott Slayback scored for the Thunderbirds with 7 minutes remaining in the third period. Jr Reign goalie Matus Trnka made 34 saves on 38 shots.

Following the close game on Friday, the OJR responded with a 5-4 win over the Thunderbirds, including a dominant 4 goal performance in the second period.
The opening period began with Rhys Doyle’s third goal of the season, ranking him second on the OJR in points. The Thunderbirds responded with a goal of their own late in the first to tie the game leading into the second period.
Rhys Doyle once again opened the scoring, with Tristen Friedman and Kaedin Larocque-Wolfe also scoring before the Thunderbirds responded with a goal of their own. Kaedin Larocque-Wolfe continued to show his dominance, scoring his second power play goal of the game to give the OJR a 5-2 lead heading into the third period.
The third period ended with the Thunderbirds scoring twice, but Josh Henson held strong with 38 saves on 42 shots to secure the win for the Ontario Jr Reign.

The Weekend ended in disappointment for the Ontario Junior Reign as they fell to the Thunderbirds by a score of 4-2 after Las Vegas scored 2 goals in less than a minute into the first period.
After the Thunderbirds 2 goal outburst, the rest of the first period went scoreless. The Second period went much the same way, with Vegas scoring 2 goals, leading the OJR 4-0 heading into the third period.
With 2 periods in the books, the Jr Reign crawled back into the game with 2 goals scored by Kaedin Larocque-Wolfe but unfortunately it was too little too late. The final score was 4-2 Thunderbirds in the final game of the series. Following the rough start, Julian Arenal was replaced by Matus Trnka who made 32 saves on 34 shots.
