The Ontario Jr Reign (11-4-0) defeated the San Diego Sabers (3-12-1) for the second night in a row by a score of 7-3 Saturday Night in Carlsbad. It was a big night for Ontario forward Tristen Lam who scored his first hat trick of the season.

It seems as if this year’s OJR squad is finding new ways to win from week to week. Friday night’s game was more of a defensive effort, with the OJR defense shutting out the Sabers for the entire third period to secure the win. The story of Saturday’s win was dominance on the power play. Ontario scored a season high five times on the power play against the Sabers, as well the OJR penalty kill effectivly killed off multiple 5 on 3 opportunites for the Sabers.

The Jr Reign’s leading goal scorer Kaedin Larocque-Wolfe opened the scoring, placing a shot past the Sabers goalie that was effectivley screened by rookie forward Kash Henkleman. The Sabers would retake the lead with two goals at the end of the first period. It was the first time the Jr Reign have trailed in a game on this seven game winning streak. You would have to look back all the way back to Oct. 7 against the Long Beach Shredders, when Ontario was behind by three goals after the first period but came back to win 6-3.

Jett Koch buried back to back goals around the seven and half minute mark. Lam and Henkleman both chipped in as well and all of a sudden Ontario was up 5-2 at the end of the second period. All four goals scored in this period by the OJR were on a power play.

Lam secured his hat trick with two goals in the beginning of the third period on a pretty passing play with his linemates to extend the OJR lead to 7-2. With his three goals in this game, Lam more than doubled his season total entering the game.

San Diego scored another goal late, but that would be it as the Jr Reign cruised to a 7-3 victory.
