OJR Announce 2023-24 Captains

by Callum Kemlo

The Ontario Jr Reign are proud to announce the 2023-24 leadership group, naming Eamon Julian the 3rd captain in franchise history. Joining Eamon as assistant captains are defenceman Diego Flota and forward Nicholas Fiolleau.

A native of nearby Burbank, California Julian has been a part of the Jr Reign organization since 2020-2021, spending two years with the Ontario Jr. Reign 18U triple AAA club, coached by Tomas Kapusta. His local ties go back further however, as Julian spent his entire high school and under 16 career playing for local teams like the California Heat, Burbank Cougars, and St. John Bosco High. Julian joined the team last season where he made an immediate impact. The decision was made in part by a player's vote where Eamon’s name was on every single ballot.

One teammate had this to say, “Eamon is authentic. Eamon works hard. Eamon is dedicated to the team. He follows the traditions, knows the team, and works for others. Players already follow him. He is a natural leader. The guys aren’t following him because he is always funny or just part of the clique they like to be around. They follow him because I think they respect him and he leads in the right direction.”

In Eamon’s two seasons with the OJR, he has played 36 games and has scored 6 goals along with 9 assists and 23 penalty minutes. Julian was awarded the top defensive player award last season because of his yeoman's work on the penalty kill and shutting down their teams top lines. Julian enters his second season in the USPHL as a core part of the forward and leadership group.

Nicholas Fiolleau enters his second season with the Ontario Jr Reign and looks forward to the return here in the Pacific Division. Fiolleau is a two-way forward with a goal scorers touch. While he only played two games last season, the Wakaw, Saskatchewan native is a “veteran player who plays hard, and is always vocal in the room. He has proved that he'll stick up for teammates and defend the boys when he needs to.”

Diego Flota, a Regina, Saskatchewan native, is entering his first season (second in the USPHL) with the OJR, but his impact has already thrust him forward as an obvious choice as an assistant captain. “Diego is a great person who picks up teammates, and doesn’t get down when we get behind. Diego also puts his body on the line for the boys and puts the team first.”

In Diego’s two seasons in the USPHL he has played 39 games, tallying 1 goal, 8 assists and 73 penalty minutes. Known as a hard-nosed physical player that takes pride in blocking shots, the OJR are proud to have Diego on the backend.

Head Coach and GM Jeremy Blumes “From day one all three of these young men have demonstrated the kind of team we are looking to build here both on and off the ice; competitive, hard working, humble, fun loving.”

Congratulations Eamon, Diego and Nick.
