From Arid Sands to Noble Dominion: Brandon Sandmoen Joins the Ontario Jr. Reign

by Callum Kemlo

The Ontario Jr Reign are pleased to announce the signing of defenseman Brandon Sandmoen for the 2023-2024 season following his Tier 2 USA Hockey National Championship win. Brandon, a product of Phoenix Arizona, spent last season with the Arizona Bobcats 18U AA, a member of the North American Prospects Hockey League. Over the course of 48 games, Brandon contributed 6 goals and 16 assists for 22 points from the backend. Brandon has spent his entire hockey career in Arizona, starting with the Phoenix Jr. Coyotes 14U AA before joining the Arizona Bobcats organization at the 15U level.

Coach Brent Gough, Brandon’s former head coach, had glowing words to say about “Sandy” saying “We are extremely happy and excited for Sandy for his next step in his hockey journey. The Jr Reign are getting a great player and a great person. Coach Blumes is getting a winner in Sandy.”

Brandon weighs in at 6’0” and 143 pounds. The left-shot defenseman describes himself as “a puck moving defenseman who is not afraid to use my legs and skate the puck when I'm given extra ice. I can see the ice very well and can make a play out of nothing.” Under the coaching staff, Brandon hopes to “expand my game more defensively and play more physically.”

When asked about joining the Jr Reign, Brandon said “I'm very excited to be playing for the Reign this year. I'm looking forward to expanding my game and believe this is the best next step for me.”

Coach and GM Blumes "smart, mobile, desire to improve. Brandon is a big addition for our backend.”

Welcome to the Ontario Jr. Reign Brandon and the entire Sandmoen family!
