Four unanswered goals assist the Jr. Reign past the Bombers
The Ontario Jr. Reign took on the Long Beach Bombers one last time before the USPHL Las Vegas Showcase. The Jr. Reign went down early in the Friday night match-up but scored four straight goals for the 4-2 win.
Ontario holds sole position of second place in the Pacific Division, as they seek to catch the Lake Tahoe Lakers in first, and separate themselves from those below such as the Fresno Monsters and the San Diego Sabers.
Josh Henson got his fourth start of the campaign, as he looked to remain undefeated.
As the first period started the Bombers found the back of the net within the first two minutes of play, with a shot from the right circle.
Despite being down early, the Jr. Reign bombarded the Long Beach goaltender with a flurry of shots that couldn’t find the back of the net.
As the period ended 1-0, with Ontario outshooting their opposition 19-5.
The second period started with the Jr. Reign continued to apply offensive pressure, but yet it was the Bombers who added another goal with just over six minutes left to play.
Ontario responded swiftly, as Christian Yi found the back of the net in his Jr. Reign debut, while he was falling towards the ice and surrounded by Long Beach defenders.
Amidst being only down a goal, Darian Sinclair scored the equalizer in just over 30 seconds. After the puck was tied up along the boards Bryn Studney-Amos slid a pass to Sinclair for a one-timer in the slot.
The score was all squared at 2-2 with just over five minutes remaining in the second period.
Ontario wasn’t done yet, as Denver Craig was one-on-one with the Bombers goalie after Alec Boucher created a turnover in his own zone. Craig blew past two Long Beach defenders and placed the puck on the top shelf for the go-ahead goal.
While headed into the second intermission the scoreboard read 3-2 for the Jr. Reign.
The final period was a copy and paste from the previous two, that saw the Jr. Reign keeping their foot on the gas in search of an insurance goal.
Despite being unable to capitalize off of two power play opportunities, Ontario secured the match with a short-handed empty net goal by Yi, with 54 seconds remaining in regulation.
As time expired, the final score was 4-2 for the Ontario Jr. Reign.
Henson recorded his third win while saving 15 of the 17 shots on target. Yi scored twice on his debut, earning himself two points along with Craig with a goal and an assist.
The Ontario Jr. Reign won’t have a home game for a while, as they travel to Las Vegas, for the USPHL Las Vegas showcases with four straight games from Dec. 18 - Dec. 21. You can catch all the action on FloHockey.tv.
