Cooper Kantola hailing from Minnesota, heads West to California with Ontario Jr Reign

by Callum Kemlo

The Ontario Jr. Reign is pleased to announce that defenseman Cooper Kantola has signed with the team for the upcoming season.

Born in Mound, Minnesota the 19-year-old Cooper stands at an impressive 6'4" and weighs in at 190lbs. A left-handed defenseman, Cooper is the complete package -  size, and skill, scoring at 1/2 points per game in the NA3HL last year, tallying  4 goals and 13 assists for 17 points through 34 games.

Prior to his stint out east, Cooper played 4 years for his hometown team Mound Westonka High and local AAA programs the Walleyes and Blizzard.

Cooper describes himself as “a big boy so you're gonna see a lot of checks and physical play from me. Coach Blumes and I have chatted and we both believe I have a ridiculous slap shot from the right side as well. Overall I'm a Defenseman that can play both sides of the ice. One day I can put points on the board, the next I clear the crease and block shots.”

On joining the Reign Cooper had this to say about: “I'm super excited to experience hockey out west as well as California in general. Excited to meet the fellas and have a great last year of junior hockey.”

Head Coach and General Manager Jeremy Blumes comments “Cooper attended our spring combine and stood out with his size, mobility, and efficiency, he is a fun-loving guy that comes to the rink with a smile on his face. Cooper will make significant contributions at both ends of the ice, and fit in well with our team first culture.”

Outside of hockey, Cooper has spent his whole life living by a lake. When he’s not on the water, he likes to read and spend time with his girlfriend, Zella.
