An Interns experience at OJR
To start, I'd like to introduce myself. My name is Cesar Rivas, and I'm a Multimedia Journalism student at Cal Poly Pomona. I had the honor of being the copywriter intern for the Ontario Jr. Reign during the 2024–2025 season.
When I first joined, I envisioned my role strictly as a copywriter. But thanks to the incredible support from everyone behind the scenes at OJR, I was able to broaden my scope and take on projects I never imagined I’d be part of.
The best way to describe my experience with OJR is through the team’s core values of team first, get better every day, and have fun.
By putting the team first, it means what I can do to help out my fellow interns or the support staff. For me, that translated to stepping in with social media posts across various platforms, or working behind the scenes on the FloHockey.tv broadcasts. This gave me hands on experience I hadn’t planned for, but I’m truly grateful they did.
Like everything in life, the more you work on a certain skill the better you get at it. At OJR, the internship allows for the opportunity to master your skills, whether that be writing, graphic design, photography, or broadcasting. At first it might be a little challenging, but it gets easier as time goes on and as you perfect your craft. Plus, it's the perfect head start for building a strong professional portfolio.
Lastly, and the most important part is about having fun. Being a part of the Ontario Jr. Reign has been one of the best times I’ve had during my short time as the copywriter. Watching every game, builds a connection to the team and who these players really are. Whether that be watching an Ontario Reign game with the squad, or seeing them interact with the community with their Road Hockey Rulez campaign, there is always fun to be had with the Ontario Jr Reign.
Once again I would like to thank Jeremy, Jared, and all of those behind the scenes at the Ontario Jr. Reign that helped create such an amazing experience.
Go Reign Go !!!
