Alumni Spotlight: Jarret "Hollywood" Perino

The Ontario Jr. Reign's primary objective is player development on and off the ice.

Jr. Reign alumni goaltender Jarret Perino exemplifies the kind of success we strive for as an organization.

The Texas native’s junior hockey journey has played across the United States, including stops in New York, Oklahoma, and Wyoming, before joining the OJR.

Perino joined OJR during the 2021-22 season after being released by his previous team. With the season winding down and the Jr. Reign in the midst of a playoff hunt, an interesting acting opportunity appeared.

“During that time, coach Jeremy had texted the group chat about this acting opportunity,” Perino said. “So I told myself, all right, well, what do I have to lose? It could be a fun little experience, so why not?”

Besides participating in a high school play, Perino had no acting experience and decided to attend because he thought it was just free ice time. However, he soon discovered he was trying out for the Disney+ television show The Mighty Ducks: Game Changers. Perino got the part of being a stuntman for the goalies.

He describes his first day on set as being very nervous and having a sense of impostor syndrome because he saw himself as a hockey player, not an actor. Nevertheless, with time his nerves calmed, and he explained that it was an unforgettable experience.

“Once I got the nerves out, it was the most fun I've ever had in my life. I was on the ice 14 hours a day, and it was just having fun with hockey again, like I was a kid,” Perino said.

After wrapping up the television show, Perino continued his junior hockey career in the NA3HL and is now pursuing his dreams by playing hockey at the collegiate level for Duquesne University in Pittsburgh.

“I've lived all over the country, did a lot of side activities, but I still got to my destination. It has been an incredible journey,” Perino said. “Some of my greatest hockey memories come with my time with the Ontario Jr. Reign in Southern California.”
