Reign Blueliner Adam Layden signs with SJHL Notre Dame Hounds

by Tomas Kapusta

Hounds Head Coach and General Manager Brett Pilkington on signing Layden “We are so happy to add Adam to our program. He is a great person and has a great family. He is a big man with extreme upside in his game. The Ontario Reign has done a great job in developing him for the past year to have him prepared to move on to junior A. We look forward to Notre Dame furthering his development and can't wait to get started.”

Layden was awarded the Unsung Hero award as the player that demonstrates dedication and selflessness both on and off the ice. Layden was one of the most reliable defensive players on a team that often played run-and-gun hockey. A fixture on the penalty kill, among the league leaders in +/- with a remarkable +50! Layden was a key contributor to the Reign’s 34-11-1 regular season record.

Layden comments “I am extremely excited to have signed with the Notre Dame Hounds and the chance to play in the SJHL. It will be a great opportunity to play high-level hockey and work towards my goal of collegiate hockey. My time with the Reign was awesome. The coaching staff was fundamental in my development and in getting me to this next level. The California lifestyle was something I will always remember and I will look back on my time with the Reign fondly.”

Head Coach and General Manager Jeremy Blumes said “Coaches aren't supposed to have favorites, but when a player pays attention to detail, cares as deeply, and works as hard as Adam - well that earns the guy the Unsung Hero award. That approach will serve Adam well, not just on the ice but in all of his future endeavors.” Blumes continued “Player development is our number one objective, Layden making the jump to Junior A in Canada is positive news for Adam and his family, the Hounds, and of course the Reign.”
